Airports

04.20am woke up. 06.30am already at airport and have spent £100 already. Why and how spring to mind. There’s always the stuff you actually plan to buy at the airport eg, food magazines, books and travel plug (you can never find one when you need one but know there are at least 3 in the house). Then there’s the things you remember you have forgotten like insect repellent, hand cream and tissues. It’s the optional extras that get me every time. Now waiting at the gate for my BA flight to Sofia. My Weatherspoon’s coffee tastes quite nice. The journey to the airport was made all the more interesting as Husband filled me in on facts about planes and airports. I have forgotten most of them although apparently tomato juice tastes nicer at altitude, according to food scientists who work in a mock up plane… I don’t really like tomato juice on the ground so I don’t think I will enjoy it at 30,000 feet. BA texted me while I was in the duty free (misnomer, these days) queue asking me if I had enjoyed the experience so far. WTH? I’ll let them know when I am safely delivered to Sofia – although Husband keeps talking about me going behind the iron curtain… I did ask if he wanted anything brought back. The romantic answer would have been “Just you, darling”. I got “if you see a Prada store at the airport, can you check out the man bags”. Well, we have been married more than 3 years so I suppose a new man bag is more of a priority…

I seemed to have bought four magazines, three more than I needed. Irritatingly, some people flying back to Sofia are skyping their relatives very loudly in the next seats. The connection isn’t very good so they are shouting “hellooo” every few minutes. It’s nearly as annoying as the BA steward on the little transit train listening to some comedy show on speaker, turned up very loud, and still holding it close to his ear. Wanted to ask him if he was deaf. Maybe I am irritable because I haven’t slept very much.

So, Bulgaria cycling tour lays ahead. Clearly my three bike rides will have helped acclimatise my muscles to the challenge. My new cycling shoes still have the label on them but at least I will look like I know what I am doing. Would like to blog everyday but not sure if there will be WIFI. And not sure I can commit to a daily anything…

Be seeing you!
