Surrey Triathlon

I recently did a Surrey Triathlon* and I think it could become a regular event. The first one was held on 30 April and I was very impressed that I made it to the end. In the morning, I went on a really long walk with my friend Sue around Bramshott Chase which was at least 10,000 steps. At the end we enjoyed a cinnamon bun and coffee as a reward at Anthea’s cake shop. You should go – it is a lovely new find. I think Anthea must have just decided to spend her life baking cakes and other pastries just because she loves doing it. There was no-one else there when we went so I wondered how the whole thing worked but she was clearly living one of my dreams. I could have eaten a piece of every delicious morsel that was on offer.

The second event of the triathlon was a 1000m swim at the Guildford Lido with my friend Amanda. It was the first (and probably the last) sunny day, proper warm sunny day, of Spring. The pool was the perfect temperature and not too busy. I had to swap lanes a couple of times as I ended up going too fast in the slow lane and not fast enough in the medium lane. I am definitely a fair weather swimmer but some people swim all year round at the Lido. Brave souls. Towards the end of the 20th length, I started to slow up a bit and went back into the slow lane. It is amazing how slow some people can swim but still be afloat. Loved the swimming event and will definitely repeat.

The final event was the one I was really looking forward to. Wine tasting! There is a great new wine bar in Godalming called Trinkfluss wines. Bastian runs wine tasting evenings where you get to try 8 wines from different places and it is a bit of a marathon as you get to drink the rest of the bottles of the ones you like, if you want to. He is very knowledgeable and enthusiastic. So 30 April was Greek wine tasting. I had visions of retsina and bull’s blood but we had 4 whites and 4 reds from different vineyards. I loved one of the white wines from so we bought a full bottle home.

A great final event for the Surrey Triathlon! It was a long and exhausting day but I am planning another one very soon. Let me know if you fancy joining or have done similar triathlons in your local area. It could be the next big thing!

*thanks to Bell for naming my busy day so appropriately.
